Self-Awareness

Building Your Brand:

Define the term Brand as it relates to a company and then how Brand relates to an individual; Introduce the concept that your personal brand is who you are, how people remember you and what sets you apart from everyone else; Engage students to take a deep look at themselves and inspire them to be intentional about the decisions they make.

Attitude:

Teach students that a positive attitude is built on gratitude, resilience, outward appearance and a good support system; Equip students with strategies that will cultivate a positive mindset when things go wrong; Teach students to understand that many times they can’t control bad things that will happen in life, but what they can have 100% control over is their attitudes.

Work Ethic:

Teach students that strong work ethic is built on dedication, discipline, dependability and the ability to “do work”; Equip students with strategies that will build the habits they need to keep going, to not only get the job done, but to get it done with excellence.

Self -Control:

Equip students with the tools needed to avoid retaliating and understand the high cost of losing control; Teach students that everything in their brand is created or destroyed through their ability to have self-control; Teach students to create good habits and give them strategies to use when temptations arise; Teach students how to avoid instant gratification.

Values:

Teach students that personal values are the core beliefs and philosophies that you hold about life period; Students will begin to define their personal values and learn how to respect the values of others; Introduce the concept that once you define your personal value system, it will be easier to make moral decisions; Engage students to take a deep look at their personal value system.

Mental Health:

Students will be able to recognize the signs and symptoms of mental health disorders as well as the prevention of these disorders. Students will learn how to reduce the stigma around mental health disorders. They will also be made aware of available resources and the process for accessing treatment. Strategies to support a peer, friend, or family member with a mental health disorder and healthy coping techniques will be taught as well.

Self-Management

Knowledge is Power:

Students learn why school and learning new things is so important, and why the things that you learn NOW will help you for the rest of your life!; The more knowledge you have, the more confident, independent and capable you will become. Students learn about passion and possible career choices.

How You Learn:

Students identify what type of learner they predominantly are: auditory, visual, kinesthetic; they learn specific study habits based on learning style.

Smart Goals:

Teach students how to set both short-term and long -term goals; learn that goals must be SMART (specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, time-bound); learn that accountability is key to success.

Time Management:

Students learn to budget their time to improve time management skills; learn how to avoid distractions that can get them off track; learn to prioritize, declutter, and create schedules.

Life in the Classroom:

Students learn secrets to success in the classroom, how to develop good relationships with their teachers, and what they can control and what the teacher controls; they learn about effort and “famous failures” that led to great success; principles of S.T.A.N.C.E are taught – correct posture, body language and attitude in the classroom.

Dealing with Anger:

Students learn what triggers their anger and the particular sources of their anger; to develop healthy new responses to have more successful outcomes; learn the “Retreat, Think, Act” method.

Decision Making

Disappointments to Opportunities:

Students learn how to turn disappointments into opportunities; how to keep disappointment in perspective and change mindset.

Dealing with Distractions:

Students identify both their internal and external distractions in the classroom and in life and then are given the tools needed to deal with those distractions.

Financial Literacy:

The 4 main topics discussed are: Saving, Planning, Spending and Giving. These 4 topics will help to shake some of the misconceptions and fears students may have about finances, while also developing the tools that they can use every day to stay financially healthy. Regardless ofbackground or financial situation students were raised in, they will quickly realize that the keys to their financial future are in their very own hands. They are in control of your own “MONEY GAME.”

Social Media:

Students learn the Do’s and Don’ts of “reputation management.” Many courses only focus on the negatives of SM. While TUF teaches students the dangers of SM, we also help students learn what a great tool SM can be to capture college and career opportunities. Students learn how to use their devices for good to strengthen their reputation, and to encourage and inspire others. They also learn how to let their positive voice be heard to support meaningful things in their lives.

Social Awareness

Privilege vs. Entitlement:

Teaches students the difference between privilege and entitlement; teaches that you aren’t “owed” anything but gain happiness through hard work and gratitude.

Sportsmanship:

Defines sportsmanship: playing fair, following the rules, respecting judgment, and treating others with respect.

Internet Safety:

Students learn to be cautious of things that lurk on the “dark side” of the web; learn to follow the safety guidelines.

Relationships

Bullying:

When middle school students are bullied by their peers, they’re at a much higher risk for low self-esteem, anxiety, stress, depression, and even suicidal thoughts. The bullies don’t fare very well either. This course takes an in-depth look at both bullies, and their victims, bullying prevention strategies, bullying intervention, cyberbullying, bullying and disabilities, why we must do something, and teen psychology.

Conflict Resolution:

Students learn the common sources of conflict and what their key stresses are. They also learn the best strategies for approaching conflict, how to stay cool when emotions heat up and how to genuinely listen. Upon course completion, students will learn the best strategies in their “toolkit” to use in each situation they may face.

Substance Abuse:

Upon course completion, students will know themselves better, will know what triggers drug and alcohol use, and will have good strategies in place to say NO when faced with peer pressure. Students will also learn the physical, emotional and mental harm that these substances can have on their body and how drug use not only affects them, but effects loved ones around them as well.

Social Media:

Teamwork/ Leadership:

When people come together as a team, share a dream, and focus on reaching their goals together, there’s a very good chance they’ll accomplish what they set out to do. In this course, inspired by the Blue Angels, students learn the basic principles of teamwork that will teach them how to work together in many aspects of their lives.

Bullying:

Guys will learn what being a “REAL MAN” entails, how developmental changes may potentially lead to aggression, and the consequences of actions. Girls will learn the aftermath of violence, the “Shame Game”, why girls don’t report and strategies for keeping safe.

When you are finished with this course, you will know yourself better, you will know what triggers drug and alcohol use, and you’ll have good strategies in place to say NO when faced with peer pressure. You will also learn the physical, emotional and mental harm that these substances can have on your body. I invite you to challenge yourself through this course and learn how to make smart choices.
